Why Most Muslims Struggle with Consistency

As Muslims, we often feel a strong drive to exceed the basic requirements of our faith: offering voluntary charity (sadaqah) beyond the obligatory zakat, performing extra voluntary prayers (nafls) in addition to the five daily salah, fasting outside of Ramadan, and engaging in many other acts to accumulate good deeds. However, this sincere approach can quickly lead to burnout if we lack a deep understanding of the purpose behind these acts or if we attempt to undertake too many efforts without careful planning, leaving us unable to maintain these voluntary deeds.

The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, provided the most essential guidance: “Take up good deeds only as much as you are able, for the best deeds are those done regularly even if they are few.” (Musnad Aḥmad 8600). He emphasised that while we must continually strive to improve in our faith (deen), our focus should be on achieving excellence in the small, regular acts we can sustain.

Reaching consistency is an endless journey, which is why we must know that, Verily, the faith of one of you will wear out within him, just as a shirt becomes worn out, so ask Allah to renew faith in your hearts. With the help of our Lord, all things are possible. Draw closer to Him and, slowly but surely, embrace consistency in your worship, no matter how small the start.

Ultimately, when you have the right tool, like Deen AI, to support you, maintaining consistency in your acts of worship becomes easier.
